FAQ: FAQ

CAN I JOIN IF I’VE NEVER DONE GYMNASTICS BEFORE?

Of course! Anyone at UoB can join gymnastics whether they are experienced or have never done it before. Many members of the club started doing gymnastics at university, or hadn't done it for years when they joined.

CAN I COMPETE AT A LOW LEVEL?

Competitions accommodate all levels of gymnastics. You can compete at a novice level, intermediate level, advanced level or elite level.

CAN YOU TEACH ME HOW TO DO A BACKFLIP?

Put simply, yes. But we ensure we teach the fundamentals as good basic skills often result in more advanced skills in the long-term.

DO I HAVE TO COMPETE?

Competitions are completely optional and you are in no way expected to compete when you join. We obviously want to see as many of our members compete as competitions are a great aspect of university gymnastics, but they are not obligatory. There are a few competitions throughout the year and you can choose which ones you wish to take part in.

I’M A GYMNAST WHO’S USED TO COMPETING AT A HIGH LEVEL, IS THAT SOMETHING I CAN CONTINUE AT UNIVERSITY?

Yes. Our intermediate/advanced/elite sessions can accommodate many different abilities of gymnastics. We also have our squad sessions, which by invitation you can attend and continue training at a high level.

DO I HAVE TO BE FLEXIBLE TO DO GYMNASTICS?

No you don’t. Although it may help to have a basic level of flexibility, your flexibility is likely going to improve just from doing the sport. Sessions usually begin and end with 5-10 minutes of stretching, so there’s plenty of time to improve flexibility.
